Veiled Lady by lynseylew Veiled Lady by lynseylew
Just another snapshot from our day out last week. A stunning marble statue from around 1860 by Raffaelle Monti, on display at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, England. This statue is the statue seen in the 2005 movie of Pride and Prejudice.

This is so beautiful, shimmery and soft and yet it's marble! I genuinely thought someone put a cloth on it, it looks so eerily real!
Tempted to draw it now (for practise). Would you mind? :eager:

This is the most beautiful statue I've ever seen. My favourite film is Pride & Prejudice and when I saw this particular statue, I was in awe! I'm glad to stumble upon it like this. Thank you for displaying it!

I first saw this statue in the pride and prejudice movie. I thought it was beautiful then, and I still think it's beautiful now. Just imagining how the artist made the statue sends shivers. The delicacy and creativity to make it is so beyond me. I wish I could see it in person. You're very lucky. :aww:

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to figure out how to create the illusion of there being a covering over her face when it's just all one piece of marble. >.>

Thanks! I always wanted to know who made that.

Mom didn't believed me when I told her it was solid marble, not cloth...

At that time it was basically a test of skills to sculpt drapery. This is actually one of my favorite sculptures.

Yeah, seriously! What I find so amazing about this peice is not just the illusion of drapery, but the illusion of the gauze veil. The fact that, like with a real translucent veil, you can see the face underneath.

It's the same as the statue in the movie. Derbyshire is where Darcy is from, so it only makes sense that the house they would use would be one like that. Beautiful and almost ethereal statue.
